The Agricultural Zone Development Plan (AZDP) is a planning document with the objective of enhancing the agricultural area of a MRC by promoting the sustainable development of agricultural activities. It is based on a review of the state of affairs and the determination of possible developments in agricultural activities. It is carried out by a MRC in consultation with local stakeholders.
The AZDP is complementary and compatible with the various planning approaches used by the MRC or within the region (Land Use Planning and Development Plan, local action plan for the economy and employment, strategic plan by agriculture sector).
All municipalities in the MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent that have a permanent agricultural zone subject to the Act Respecting the Preservation of Agricultural Land and Agricultural Activities (LPTAA, LRQ chapter P-41.1) are affected by this process. The permanent agricultural zone currently covers 94% of the territory of the MRC. ie. 108,744 ha.
